In success -- an ideal goal you are working towards -- timing is critical. Consistency is critical. Caution is critical. Like a rubber band, often you'll have to strive, pause, and strive again. Whatever happens, don't give up unless you know for sure there is absolutely no chance of success. Even if there is a 1 percent chance of success, and if success is important to you, then it is worth the old college try. Move with your eyes open but move with faith that you will succeed.
Keeping promises is hard. It requires us to do things we don't want to do. But keep those promises you must do. Otherwise, do not make them in the first place. But since you have made them, you must keep them, especially if it would benefit all those involved including yourself.
